We've had our obligatory practices, and even played a game already (60 and Sunny in February, who would of thunk it). We have welcomed some new players to the team, and nicknames will be coming. Nate is a great addition on attack, as is Jack!! Noah can go both ways, and he can play middie and attack too!!! Alex, Charlie and Asher are all great additions as well. With a brand new meathead at pole in Chris and the return of everyones favorite Naval meathead in Burt, I think we are looking pretty good.

Now of course this is all in a way offset by the lost 3 very important Cooperites. I just wanted to recognize them one more time for what they are and were, and will be if they ever return.

DOM "THE SOCIALITE" TREADWELL : The opposing team always knew when they looked into your eyes that they were in for a long day, and that you had a lot of blood vessels. Your hunger for wins was only surpassed by your hunger for White Castle. Some people use music to get psyched up for a game, and you were no different. Except how anybody can use the Grateful Dead for anything productive is beyond me. Honestly, you were a great goalie and will be missed tremendously by the team. We wish you all the luck in the world and let us know when that hankering for "Bud" light calls you back to the great northwest!!!

AARON "THE MOROSE" SHUITT: Sulking, slumping, always grumbling something about keeping those damn kids off his lawn. Just an all around stick in the mud. Slow, weak shot, terrible dodges, I have even heard the other team talk about going to a 6 on 5 situation and leaving you alone. But seriously...I think in the 3 years he was on the team I saw him sulk once (championship we lost). Always happy, and an absolutely terrific lacrosse player. Other teams would rearrange their gameplane to cover you. Not only that but unselfishly, you took the move to middie in stride and did it very well. Good luck in Maine and hope to see you soon!!

DANIEL "THE SAINT" JENKINS: Loved, respected by teammates, officials and opponents alike. Never said a disparaging thing about anyone, except "He's got no left hand, I hate guys with no left hand, I am going to go out and kill that guy because he has no left hand". I don't think he was penalized very often (Except the occasional 3 minute here and there) and he never got into it with anybody on the field (Unless you count the unnecassary dry humping penalty on T-Homo and the ensuing scuffle). He never said a disparaging word about his teamates, unless you couldn't throw or catch. However, he was one of the most agressive lacrosse players I have ever seen. He wore his heart out on his sleeve on every play and would usually wear his heart out on everyplay. Because he would battle for a ground ball and come out everytime exhausted. For those of you that never really knew him outside of lacrosse, he is one of the nicest, most sincere, family oriented guys I know.

Anyway, we hate to say goodbye, and we probably will see you again. Thus is the circle of life, say goodbye and make anew. Just thought a sendoff was necassary.

DREW "HATE TYPING" WRIGHT

Going Gonzo!

That's right, this Saturday is the season opener, playing against Gonzo down in Kent.

For those of you like myself who aren't familiar with the location, have a crack at this nice flyer that Jr sent around. With multiple injuries and a tough season, the boys pulled together in the end to wrestle a win against what had seemed to be an unstoppable Huron team, taking home the PNLA B League Champion's Cup.

The 2008 season is fast approaching, and with multiple new teams starting up all over Washington and Oregon, the landscape is changing and expanding. Coopers will be looking to capitalize on their close-knit team to take on the challenge of defending their Champion status yet again. It's never easy, but it's always fun. Bring on the season!

Rain, Beer, Tears, and a fond farewell

It was a great weekend for the Coopers lacrosse club. First up was Kavu B. I have to admit that this is not the same Tentawon/Kavu B of recent years. They have definitely picked up some good players and will be an up and coming force as long as they keep thier team together. An 8 O'clock game certainly made things interesting, as well as the torrential downpours! It was a tight game for the first 1 and a half quarters, both defenses played well and Dom made a few key saves to keep the score at Zero. That would be the impetus for what would become Coopers' first shutout in over 10 years (according to Dan at least). To be fair, one of Kavu B's goals was called back for a 50 foot head fling that ended up hitting one of our defenders and they definitely deserve a point or two for putting on one hell of a drink up!!! However, the victory was tainted by what seems to be a season ending injury to our middie leader Murph, who after a ferocious hit collapse to the ground with a broken clavicle. It is a hard loss to accept, but hopefully he will be able to at least sing Karaoke to get him through the coming months!!!!

Less than 12 hours later we were suiting up again to take on a well traveled Bigfoot squad. It was really nice to see a team from Oregon travel well. It appears that they have picked up some great players as well, and they too will become a force if they can keep thier squad together over the next few years. Coopers took the field with several players sitting out injured (or hungover?) and the game started with a 1-1 tie. Dom once again played out of his mind, and the defense held the team to a season average ~2 goals. The offense clicked well and Coopers came out with a 14-2 victory.

Once again, we lost another player following this game. Miles Wheeler, our very humble and quiet long stick defender has left for greener (and Sunnier) pastures, and accepted a job in San Diego. He was sent off in Coopers fashion, with a friday night outing to fremont. It sucks when you get to know a guy, and they have to follow life where it takes them. However, I cant feel too bad for a guy that will be living 3 blocks from the beach. He will be missed and hopefully he will come up for a game or two in the off season. Good luck, bon voyage and don't let the door know hit ya, where the good lord split ya!!!

Game Updates!

Apologies all for the lack of updates lately. Coopers came out slow, but played pretty good ball control and came out with a 15-2 victory.

So, Coopers is off to a great start to the season.
